WELCOME TO CHOIR AT SPANISH FORT HIGH SCHOOL!

You have chosen to be a part of a "team" that works cooperatively together.  OUR GOAL IS EXCELLENCE!  As a choral student at Spanish Fort High School, I expect you to participate with a positive attitude and a sincere commitment, maintain high personal standards, both musically and academically.  It is my goal to help you reach your full potential as a choral musician.  I look forward to the months ahead with great excitement.  Go Toros!

CHORAL DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Spanish Fort High School Choral Department is to help students develop and strengthen musical concepts and skills, learn and perform a variety of choral literature, develop a love of choral music and an enjoyment of singing.  In the choral program we affirm the mission of Spanish Fort High School by providing a "safe, supportive, and challenging environment that motivates students to learn and grow into respectful, honest, compassionate adults who will initiate personal responsibility and take charge of his or her life".

CHOIR COURSE DESCRIPTION

The choral program at Spanish Fort High School is designed to provide opportunities for students to explore and develop his/her musical potential and to enjoy the aesthetic experiences of music.  Participation in choir encourages teamwork, goal setting, concentration, individual responsibility, quick decision making, thriving under pressure and self-discipline.  The choral experience develops a positive self-image through successful experiences in music.  It also develops a sense of pride through meaningful responsibility.  Excellence in performance and musicianship are encouraged.

PERFORMING GROUPS                           

Los Cantantes (Choir 1 and 2)

Los Cantantes is a performing ensemble open to students in grades 9-12.  No audition is necessary.   Students study correct vocal technique, music theory, sight-sighting, ear-training, music terminology, music history, and the rehearsal and performance of music from a wide variety of musical styles and historical time periods. Students perform at school choral events. 

Las Canciones (Women's Chorus)

Las Canciones is a performing ensemble open to women in grades 10-12 by audition only.  Students study correct vocal technique, music theory, sight-sighting, ear-training, music terminology, music history, and the rehearsal and performance of music from a wide variety of musical styles and historical time periods. Students perform at district, state, and national choral events.

Los Hombres (Men's Ensemble)

Los Hombres is a performing ensemble open to men in grades 10-12 by audition only.  Students study correct vocal technique, music theory, sight-sighting, ear-training, music terminology, music history, and the rehearsal and performance of music from a wide variety of musical styles and historical time periods. Students perform at district, state, and national choral events.

El Coro de Musica (Mixed Chorus)

El Coro de Musica is a performing ensemble open to men and women in grades 10-12 by audition only.  Students study correct vocal technique, music theory, sight-sighting, ear-training, music terminology, music history, and the rehearsal and performance of music from a wide variety of musical styles and historical time periods. Students perform at district, state, and national choral events.
