SFHS Administration
Dr. Shannon Smith, Principal
Shannon Smith was named the Principal of SFHS in 2022 and had been an Assistant Principal for the Baldwin County School System since 2012. Prior to moving into administration, Dr. Smith taught Math at Murphy High School for ten years and served as the Varsity Girls Soccer Coach.
Dr. Smith is from Atlanta, GA and earned a soccer scholarship to attend The University of South Alabama, where she met her husband, Isaac Smith. Isaac and Shannon have two daughters, Schuyler and Audrey. Dr. Smith’s hobbies include reading, boating, working out, and spending time with family.
Dr. Justin McNellage, Assistant Principal
Justin McNellage is in his fifth year as a Toro. Prior to transitioning to administration, he was an English teacher at Saraland High School for seven years. He sponsored several clubs and co-sponsored the senior class while he was there.
Justin has lived in the Mobile area his entire life. He graduated from the University of Mobile (Go Rams). Before becoming an educator, he served as a youth pastor. His hobbies include reading, traveling, watching Netflix, and spending time with family/friends.

Zachary Wenzel, Assistant Principal
Mr. Wenzel began his career in education in 2015 as a volunteer assistant football coach and student teacher in his hometown of Pensacola, FL. In 2016 he joined the staff at Escambia High School (FL) as a reading teacher, assistant football coach, and assistant baseball coach. In 2018, he moved to Baldwin County and began working at Elberta High School, where he served in a variety of roles. Mr. Wenzel taught multiple 9-12 social studies courses at Elberta High School, including AP Government, honors economics, honors U.S. history, and honors world history. Mr. Wenzel also served as the social studies department chair for two years at Elberta High School. In addition to teaching, Mr. Wenzel served as an assistant football coach, head boys’ and girls’ bowling coach, and assistant soccer coach. Mr. Wenzel also sponsored several extracurricular activities, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Model United Nations.
Mr. Wenzel moved to Spanish Fort in 2022. In his free time, he enjoys golf, working out, watching football, and trying new food.
Mary LaCoste, Assistant Principal
Mary LaCoste earned her B.S. from the University of South Alabama in Secondary Education in 1994. She holds teaching certifications in both English and history. LaCoste earned her M.Ed from the University of West Alabama in Library Media in 2015 and her Instructional Leadership certification from the University of West Alabama in 2019. She taught middle school English for eight years and high school English for five years. She was the Library Media Specialist at Baker High School for four years.
Mary LaCoste is from Mobile and has three children, Emily, Brant, and Molly. Her hobbies include walking her dog, Scout, working in her yard, and spending time with friends and family.
